Meet The Team

Kimberly Simmons currently serves as Director of Metro West GLRS. She has been a dedicated educator for over twenty-seven years. She has had the opportunity to work in various levels of leadership at the state level and at the district level. She has served both as a general and special education teacher.  She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University, where she received her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and her Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  Some of her specialty areas include facilitative leadership, implementation of job-embedded professional learning, coaching, building and sustaining effective co-teaching teams.  Ms. Simmons believes in the importance of creating classroom environments wherein student differences are celebrated and supported so that all students have the best opportunity to learn.

 

Beverly Maxwell has spent the past fifteen years working in the field of special education.  She enjoyed years of service in DeKalb County Schools and Atlanta Public Schools and had varied experiences in small group, resource, and inclusion settings.  Mrs. Maxwell has always been passionate about urban education and advocating for all students to receive quality instruction.  Her current interests include brain development, social justice, and providing relevant support to teachers.

 

 

 

Kimberly Gregory is a part of the Metro West GLRS Team and serves as one of the GLRS Program Specialists, providing professional development in areas such as behavior management, intellectual disabilities, and improving the performance of struggling learners in social studies and E/LA across metro Atlanta. She graduated from Spelman College with a BA in History and a minor in Secondary Education, and earned advanced degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Cambridge University. Ms. Gregory taught high school in Prince George’s County, MD, and researched obsessive-compulsive and emotional behavior disorders in students. She has several years in special education and social studies classrooms, and as a behavior specialist supporting students. She advises several educational boards, including the Georgia Network for Educational Therapeutic Sites and the High Museum of Art Educational Advisory Board. In 2021, she became a lecturer at Kennesaw State University in the Inclusive Education Department.
