Dr. Miranda Westbrook, Metro RESA K-5 Mathematics Specialist

Dr. Miranda Westbrook has been an educator for more than 19 years. She currently serves as the Metropolitan Regional Educational Service Agency  K-5 Mathematics Specialist. This role affords her the opportunity to provide site-based professional learning to systems, schools, administrators, coaches, and teachers in the 12 metropolitan Atlanta area school districts. Prior to joining the Metro RESA team, she served as the K-5 Mathematics Professional Learning Specialist for the Cobb County School District. In this role, she supported teachers, academic coaches, and administrators with mathematics through professional learning, instructional rounds, and resource development. Prior to becoming a mathematics specialist, Dr. Westbrook taught for more than 10 years in the Forsyth County School System. She has also served as an instructor of the K-5 Mathematics Endorsement and as a special project contractor for the Georgia Department of Education. As a life-long learner, Dr. Westbrook earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, her Master of Education Degree in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in Mathematics, and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. She also has endorsements in K-5 Mathematics, Gifted Education, and STEM. Additionally, she obtained her Tier 1 Leadership Certification. Dr. Westbrook is a member of the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCTM), Georgia Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (GCSM), and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). She loves sharing the joy of mathematics with students, teachers, and leaders.

Tynisha Robinson, Metro RESA Secondary Mathematics Specialist

Tynisha currently serves as the Metropolitan Regional Educational Service Agency Secondary Mathematics Specialist. This role affords her the opportunity to provide site-based professional learning to systems, schools, administrators, coaches, and teachers in the twelve metropolitan Atlanta area school districts and metro area institutions. Prior to joining Metro RESA, she was a high school math teacher, 6-12 district mathematics instructional coach, and then a district-level K-12 Mathematics Coordinator. With twenty-three years of experience in and outside of the classroom, Tynisha has proven to be a transformational leader in the area of mathematics.  Her experience includes leading professional development through trainings, professional learning communities (PLCs), classroom support, and assessment development. Outside of mathematics, Tynisha served as the district-level lead for developing building-level instructional coaches through consistent in-house professional development opportunities focused on building leadership capacity within the instructional role. She led Marietta City Schools as they transitioned from CCGPS to Georgia Standards of Excellence and was pivotal in leading teachers through the pedagogical shifts that the new standards possessed. Tynisha continues to work with GaDOE. She served as the Geometry: Concepts and Connections team lead for Georgia’s K-12 Math Standards.  She is a member of Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCTM), Georgia Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (GCSM), and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). She serves as the Metro-West Representative for GCTM. Tynisha is the Program Chair for the Georgia Mathematics Conference (GMC) 2024.

Mathematics Endorsement

Dr. Michelle Mikes, Metro RESA K-5 Mathematics Endorsement Coordinator

Michelle has served in education for over 30 years in Georgia. She served as a middle and high school mathematics teacher and, for nineteen years, was the K-12 Mathematics Supervisor for the Cobb County School District. Michelle has been a K-5 Mathematics Endorsement instructor for the past ten years and is now working part-time as the K-5 Mathematics Endorsement Coordinator. She is a member of GCSM, where she previously held the roles of President and Secretary, and received the GCSM Leadership Award. Currently, Michelle is a member of GCTM, where she is the Conference Coordinator Intern and will serve in that position from 2025-2027. Previously, she served as Secretary, NCTM Representative, and GMC Program Chair for GCTM, as well as received the John Neff Award. Michelle recently retired and is working part-time providing professional learning and resources for mathematics teachers.
