Dr. Erika Tucker, Metro RESA K-12 English Language Arts Specialist

Dr. Erika Tucker has worked in public education for 23 years. She received her BA in English Literature and Africana Studies as well as MAT in Secondary English Education from Agnes Scott College. She holds a Leadership Certificate from the University of West Georgia and Ph. D. in Language and Literacy Education from the University of Georgia.  Her educational research interests include disciplinary literacy, culturally relevant pedagogy, and assessment practices.  Dr. Tucker is the co-author of the chapter “Family-School Partnerships” in Research to Guide Practice in Middle Grades Education. She has also reviewed several education publications, including Literature Reading ActivitiesThe Teacher Clarity Playbook, and Developing Assessment Capable Learners. In addition, Dr. Tucker has presented at several national conferences, including the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, Literacy Research Association, and The National ESEA Conference.    

Dr. Tucker has held several positions in public education, including ELA teacher, Title I instructional coach, assistant principal, and district curriculum coordinator. She currently serves as an ELA Professional Learning  Specialist with the Metropolitan Regional Educational Service Agency (Metro RESA) and a GSLA Teacher Leader Coach in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement.

Kelley York currently serves as an ELA Professional Learning Specialist at Metro RESA, GSLA Teacher Leader Curriculum Design Team member, and a GSLA Teacher Leader Support Coach in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement.

Kelley has impacted change with colleagues in the educational profession by spearheading an interdisciplinary team of educators to help the 12 metro-area school districts, which serve 43% of the State of Georgia, understand and effectively implement the Georgia standards. This work has continued with each iteration of the state standards. Prior to joining the MRESA Team in 2011, Kelley was an ELA District-level Instructional Coach in Fulton County Schools. She was responsible for collaboratively working with teams of coaches to provide support with their curriculum, instruction, observations, feedback, and modeling needs for PK-12 grade teachers in multiple schools across the district. Additionally, Kelley has presented at several regional, state, and national conferences.

Kelley was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a proud product of the Atlanta Public School System. Kelley received a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University, Master of Education from Mercer University, and an Educational Specialist’s degree with a focus in Curriculum/ Instruction and Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia. Her 25 years in education have afforded her opportunities to travel the state serving as an educational ambassador, benefitting both educators and students.
