Application Steps

• Official transcript(s) from ALL accredited colleges or universities attended
  • Transcript(s) must list the degree awarded and the date the degree was conferred. 
  • A Bachelor's degree may not be required for your field.
  • CTAE fields will include degree/certificate information from an accredited institution.
• Required cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (2.5 if employed as a teacher)
  • If you have a lower GPA AND are employed as a teacher, please contact gatapp@mresa.org prior to applying 
• Must hold a related degree to subject teaching
  • Related Degree Listings

• Passing GACE Content Assessment, or equivalent, must be related to college degree awarded
  • Related Degree Listings
    • Elementary and Special Education fields do not require related degree
  • Equivalent assessments could be Praxis, or other state-approved assessments

  • **NOTE** Some CTAE and unique fields do not have corresponding GACE assessments.

• GACE Georgia Educator Ethics
  • Must be completed prior to program admittance
  • Will need to receive GACE Georgia Educator Ethics Certificate prior to submitting the online application 

• Two reference letters:
  • Will be sent via email within the online application
    • Must be from someone other than a relative
    • One must come from the building principal on school letterhead (if you are employed as a classroom teacher)

Prepare resume’- you will include a complete, up-to-date resume’ which includes your current job.

Obtain a copy of your teaching certificate from your MyPSC account. You must have two full years of eligibility on your provisional certificate OR one year of eligibility and a letter from your HR department indicating that a Waiver certificate will be requested at the end of Year 1.

Obtain a copy of your most recent teacher evaluation (summative TKES or GaLEADS summative evaluation from the previous year or similar assessment).  

• $75.00 application fee  to be paid online upon completion of application. 
• This fee is non-refundable and covers the cost of processing your application.

• Notification Window: All applicants will be informed of the application status and/or enrollment decision via the e-mail listed in the application. Allow up to four weeks from completed online application submission and receipt of payment. If you don’t hear back from us within 30 days, please e-mail us at gatapp@mresa.org.

• Follow the directions in the Acceptance Letter
  • Register for and attend the Program Orientation.

• Register and pay  ($650.00) for the Essentials of Effective Teaching class.

  • The class will be held during the summer.

• If not employed as a teacher: 
  • Applicants are placed on an Eligibility List that is disseminated throughout Metro RESA’s school systems.
  • Applicants are also encouraged to visit local school systems websites to view current vacancies, or visit Teach Georgia for a listing of all available job openings.
  • Applicants must secure a teaching job before they can become enrolled in the upcoming GaTAPP cohort.
• The hiring system and the candidate will submit all required documents for assurances and commitments.
